TWAS-icipe Postgraduate Fellowship Programme

The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), Nairobi, Kenya, and TWAS offer one fellowship per year to young scientists from developing countries (other than Kenya) who wish to undertake their PhD studies in Kenya.

Programme Details : TWAS-icipe Postgraduate Fellowships in natural sciences are tenable for a period of up to 3 years at the departments of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kenya. Eligible icipe departments: Fellowships are tenable at icipe in the Programmes of Animal Health, Human Health, Plant Health, Environmental Health, in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, in the Department of Behavioural and Chemical Ecology, in the Department of Entomology, and at the field station of Mbita, Lake Victoria, Kenya. SANDWICH Fellowships (for those registered for a PhD in their home country): the Fellowship may be granted for a minimum period of 6 months and a maximum period of 9 months. FULL-TIME Fellowships (for those not registered for a PhD in their home country): the Fellowship is granted for a period of up to 3 years. Candidates will register for their PhD at icipe. The programme envisages only one journey to the host country. icipe will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency. The language of instruction is English.

Eligibility : Be nationals of a developing country (other than Kenya); must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Kenya or any developed country; hold a Master’s degree in a field of the natural sciences; SANDWICH Fellowships: be registered PhD students in their home country and provide the "Registration and No Objection Certificate" from the HOME university; OR FULL-TIME Fellowships: be willing to register for a PhD at icipe, Kenya; provide evidence that s/he will return to their home country on completion of the fellowship; be accepted at an icipe department and provide an official acceptance letter from the head of the department (see sample Acceptance Letter) to this effect. Requests for acceptance must be directed to Lillian Igweta (see contact details below); provide evidence of proficiency in English.

How to apply

Application should be filled by the candidates either in Hindi or English in his/her own handwriting and must sign as well as put his/her Thumb impression at the prescribed space. The signature must be in running hand and not in block capital or disjoined letters. The signatures in the application form, information sheet, Answer sheet, Question Booklet and at the time of document verification should be identical. Application form should be submitted through ordinary post or to be dropped in the box provided for this purpose in the office of Deputy Chief Personnel Officer (Gaz), Personnel Department, GM?s Office, West Central Railway, Jabalpur.- 482 001 on or before 14.08.2012 (18.00 hrs.).
