There are four ranks for a person coming into the Indian Army, officer rank, warrant officer rank, junior commissioned officer ranks, and non commissioned ranks.
Aspirant has to go through the UPSC or Union Public Service Commission test for the permanent commission rank. Aspirant belonging to the 10+2 NDA section has to go through the YPSC exam and a clearing interview after the exam. The NDA prepares every student for the exam which is twice a year. 10+2 PCM students can directly apply to the Recruitment commissioner.
Graduate students get a direct entry and just have to clear Combined Defense Services Examination or CDSE and an interview, and then a candidate will be recruited as a pre-commission trainee in the Army. If he or she completes then they will be recruited as an Indian army officer to any of the ranks.
Engineering candidates can also join directly by giving Service selection board examination. One can also get into Indian army via SSC or short service commission if you want to serve the country for a short span of time.
